Annotate and describe the process of the 'push me/pull you' exercise

The 'push me/pull you' exercise is a balance exercise to be done in pairs. Below I have given a detailed step-by-step walk through to doing the exercise. Ideally it should be done with people who are similar heights and weights.

Step 1

Label yourselves A and B, and follow the consequent steps according to which letter you are.

Step 2

Stand opposite each other and clasp each other's wrists/forearms tightly using your right hands.

Step 3

Both stand with your right feet outstretched.

Step 4

Still holding on to each other, Person A lean forward, putting all the body weight on the right foot as Person B leans back putting their weight on their left foot and continues to lean back so A and B are counter balancing each other.

Step 5

Person B should have not moved their feet and should be lying on their back momentarily with Person A having followed the movement and therefore should be leaning over them.

Step 6

In one continual moment from lying on the floor and using the momentum from getting down to the floor, A should pull backwards and B should push upwards so B is pulled up off the floor to a standing position again.

Step 7

Keeping the momentum going, B now leans forwards and A leans backwards so A goes down on to the floor, leaving B leaning over them.

Step 8

A then pushes to stand up as B pulls backwards to make this easier so both are standing up.The process then repeats.

This is one cycle of the exercise that can go on for a very long time, creating almost a pendulum action with the body weight, creating the push/pull effect. Once practised, the exercise will flow smoothly and can be achieved at high speeds. The exercise is good to engage the core and strengthen muscles, as well as to build confidence between two people, trusting each other and using each other's body weight to pull themselves up.
